Fast Tracked: Editors return with thunderous new song ‘Magazine’

A few weeks ago The Cure announced details of their massive 40th anniversary show in London, and it was a joy to see Editors listed on the bill alongside Interpol, Ride, Slowdive and others. It suggested something was up with the Birmingham post-punk band, whose 2005 debut LP The Back Room remains purely unfuckwithable. This morning (January 16) we learn Tom Smith and his crew are set to release their sixth studio album Violence on March 9. The record’s lead single is the towering “Magazine,” which finds Editors back wrestling with the grand ambition that made them so appealing in the first place. Frontman Tom Smith describes “Magazine” as “a pointed finger aimed at those in power… some corrupt politician or businessman… a character, and a tongue in cheek poke at the empty posturing and playing to the masses of the power hungry.” Watch the Rahi Rezvani-directed video below.
