Last month when Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds teased their new album Who Built The Moon?, Liam Gallagher was quick to take to Twitter and dismiss the whole thing. Something about a beige fella presenting psychedelic music is akin to a vegetarian selling kebab, we were told.
This morning, Noelly G has offered up the first song from the new LP, and so far even Liam hasn’t — as of press time — hated on it. Perhaps that’s because it’s strikingly good.
The new track is called “Holy Mountain”, and the barreling tune features Paul Weller on the organ. Hell, it sounds like The Vaccines covering Inspiral Carpets.
“I knew instantly that it was going to be the first single,” Noel says in a press release. “There’s so much joy in it. Until the day I die, it will be one of my favourite pieces of music that I’ve ever written. It sounds great live. My kids love it, my friends kids all love it and I am sure the kids will love it.”
Maybe even Liam!
Who Built The Moon? is out November 24 via Sour Mash, and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds play the Boston Opera House on February 17. We’re required by Britpop law to tell you that Liam plays the House of Blues in Boston on November 25.
