They say in Boston that the first day of every new year actually arrives September 1. If that’s indeed the case, then we’re skipping any sort of year-in-review feature in lieu of a prediction plate for your musical year ahead. This week’s V:Music mix, the first since champagne popped all over Boston’s student population last weekend, is a straight banger, an intoxicating cocktail of alt-pop and V-approved sounds from some personal faves to tomorrow’s darlings.
Shit gets kicked off in style with Tove Lo’s new ripper “Disco Tits,” which is as fun to listen to as it is to say. The big beat rolls forward with St. Vincent’s new certified J-A-M “Los Angeless”, and then veers a course down Awesome Highway as we touch down on new essentials from Beck, ILoveMakonnen + Rae Sremmurd, Cardiknox, SZA (check a gallery on her recent Royale show here), Maty Noyes, Nothing But Thieves, Aquilo, Loote, 3LAU, Aash Mehta + Lydia Kelly, Super Duper + REMMI, and Toronto’s Alvvays, who come to Boston’s Paradise Rock Club on October 3 armed with the likely Album of the Year in Antisocialites (out today on Polyvinyl) and Song of the Year in “In Undertow”. We’ve barely moved on from that modern classic, but here we’ll keep it current with the blissful guitar-pop track “Lollipop.”
We know what kind of flavor you like. This is V:Music. Made for you.
