‘Baby Driver’ soundtrack to feature Sky Ferreira, Blur, T. Rex, Modern Lovers and more

We’ve already sung mighty praise on Edgar Wright’s upcoming action flick Baby Driver, even declaring it “the best musical in years” right there in our review headline.

“To say that Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver is the best musical released in the last decade is both absolutely deserved and, to most people, totally unexpected,” wrote Vanyaland’s Nick Johnston in his review at SXSW. “Isn’t it a car chase movie? people will ask, and yeah, on the surface it is: A hyperactive action movie full of blood and funk that just can’t, no, won’t stop the beat. But lying beneath it is some of the most incredible technical music-centered choreography, cinematography, and editing since the ’30s.”

Baby Driver is about a music-obsessed getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) who is recruited for one last heist by a crime boss (Kevin Spacey) he owes a debt to in order to leave the business and go straight with his girl (Lily James), but plans go haywire when a loose cannon (Jamie Foxx) and a psychotic couple (Eiza Gonzalez and Jon Hamm) compromise the job. Throughout the film, music is a worthy co-star.

Today (June 2), details of the film’s official soundtrack have surfaced, and it’s a dandy good track list.

The Baby Driver OST will feature 30 songs, as Pitchfork notes, including Sky Ferreira (covering Lionel Richie’s “Easy,” according to her Insta), Blur, Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers, T. Rex, Queen, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Beck, Danger Mouse (on original track “Chase Me”) and more.

The soundtrack was personally curated by Wright, and it serves just as vital a role as the film’s stars. Check out the full track list below, and mark your speedometer: Baby Driver opens June 28.
