Year In ReView: 16 of our most favorite Providence songs of 2016

This year marked one of immense growth for the Providence music scene. New faces made their presence felt and even a new venue in Alchemy opened up to become a huge part of an already burgeoning community. Veterans staked their claim and the newbies became established while a bunch of others are well on their way to making a name for themselves. For any community to thrive, there has to be a steady influx of young people getting involved. Thankfully that is happening in Providence when it comes to local music and people are welcoming it with open arms. There’s a sense of artistic excitement in the Creative Capital these days; individuals who have been involved in the music community for years are getting more and more great people involved. Shows consisting of all local bands are packing venues in every neighborhood. It’s inspiring to witness and there’s a lot to be positive about when it comes to the bands that call this place home. With all of this being said, here are 16 of our favorite songs to come out of Providence this year.

Arc Iris, “Paint With The Sun”

One of the most versatile bands to encounter, Arc Iris pushed the envelope even more with their second full-length album, August’s Moon Saloon. Their brand of orchestral glam rock rose to new heights and it’s exhibited in “Paint With The Sun.” Harmonious, lovely, and brilliant in every way, Jocie Adams’ voice is the central focus while Zachary Tenorio-Miller and Ray Belli lead the magnificent sounds. There’s also a lot of variety in the song with a plethora of progressions and dimensions. This trio reaffirmed their position as one of the top acts in Providence in 2016 and it doesn’t look like they’ll be fading away anytime soon.
