‘It’s kinda enormous’: Alan McGee announces new Jesus And Mary Chain album for March 2017

Every March all we ever talk about is the luck of the Irish. Next year, thanks to the Jesus And Mary Chain, it’ll be all about the Scots.

Creation Records boss and Mary Chain manager Alan McGee has revealed that the brothers Jim and William Reid brothers will release a new Jesus And Mary Chain album in March 2017. It will be the band’s first in 19 years, the long-awaited follow-up to 1998’s Munki.

“They’ve made another album! It’s a big deal! It’s unbelievable,” McGee tells CBC Music, via SPIN. “They’ve just made an album and I’ve signed them to Warners! New album coming. It’s coming out end of next March. It’s kinda enormous!”

A post this morning on the Creation Records Facebook page echoes the claim: “The Jesus And Mary Chain will be dropping their new record March 2017.. on Warners… of course!!!”

Massively influential for their noisy guitar-rock sound, the Jesus and Mary Chain formed in 1983, released six studio albums — including two records that border on perfection in 1985’s Psychocandy and 1989’s Automatic — and split in 1999. They reformed for Coachella in 2007 and have been fairly active on the touring circuit since.

Watch them perform “Upside Down” for the 30th anniversary of Psychocandy last year at the House of Blues in Boston, and check out a few select upcoming live Mary Chain dates, as well.
