As if the holiday movie season had us mildly excited — Rogue One, Bad Santa 2, that office Christmas party film — here comes the Trainspotting sequel to make us look fully ahead beyond the New Year.
T2: Trainspotting is officially out January 27, and the first official trailer has been released this morning.
The nostalgic two-minute clip finds the ol’ mates reunited, two decades after their first go-round. “First there was an opportunity, then there was a betrayal,” reads the description. “Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle). Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.”
T2: Trainspotting was directed by Danny Boyle, and is loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s Porno. Choose whatever device you are currently on and dive into your long-gone youth below.
