Australian guitar-pop duo Hockey Dad recently wrapped up a summer North American tour, including a late August stop at Great Scott in Allston, and it seems their swing down the West Coast had a bit of an impact on Zack Stephenson and Billy Fleming. At least that’s the takeaway from their recent appearance on Australian radio station triple j, where they served up a jangly cover of Hole’s 1998 hit “Malibu”.
Hockey Dad busted out the cover for triple j’s weekly Like A Version series, which last caught our attention when Kasabian were in studio to mash up “Good Vibrations” with the Sesame Street theme.
Watch past series of Like A Version here, and press play below on Hockey Dad’s rendition of the Hole classic, a track rather infamously co-written by Courtney Love, Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson, and Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. The original, like much of Hole’s incredible Celebrity Skin record, holds up nicely after nearly two decades.
