While watching, live-tweeting, and posting about the MTV Video Music Awards last night, we couldn’t help but be left wanting a little bit more. Sure, Beyoncé dominated with a massive show-stopping performance, but the rest of the night fell rather flat. Britney limped through a comeback appearance, music vets DNCE won Best New Artist, and Rihanna’s multiple bangers couldn’t right the ship.
Where was the New, the Now, the Next? Where was the style, where was the anti-grace?
A few hours before everyone walked the red carpet at the VMAs, Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based Allie X dropped a new video for her sugary synth-pop jam “All The Rage”, and we wish we saw her throw it down on a stage somewhere in or around the vicinity of Madison Square Garden. If Nick Jonas can perform in a diner, then Allie X deserved a platform.
In her new video, which you can watch below, Allie X teams with American drag queen and RuPaul’s Drag Race season seven winner Violet Chachki for a stiletto-spiked romp along the Pacific Coast Highway. “All The Rage” is from Allie X’s direct-to-fan project called CollXtion II Unsolved, and you can hear that here.
Maybe next year she’ll get some VMAs love.
