Dig Out Your Solo: Liam Gallagher signs to Warner, will release debut album in 2017

A while back Liam Gallagher warned that he’d never follow the lead of his brother Noel and release a solo record because, in his words, he’s not a cunt. Turns out, we’ll be seeing him next Tuesday after all, as the former Oasis mouth has signed a deal with Warner Bros UK and will release his debut solo album in 2017.

And yes, he’s aware of what he’s said in the past.

Liam’s record deal follows the successful solo career of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. His post Oasis band, Beady Eye, split in 2014. In the two years since, the frontman has been out of the spotlight, but in recent months has begun teasing a return to rock and roll.

This morning’s news was relayed by Music Business Worldwide.

“Very excited to be signing to the mighty Warner Brothers,” Liam says in a statement. “Looking forward to making some super sweet sounds. Keep the faith!”

Adds Warner Bros. Records UK prez Phil Christie: “Liam’s one of the all-time greats — brilliant, distinctive, controversial and captivating. The album he’s currently recording is big, bold and heartfelt, and it feels important and culturally relevant.

Oasis has sold more than 77 million records across seven multi-platinum studio albums, and the Britpop band’s sophomore record, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? is the fifth biggest selling album in UK history.
