We’re always pretty busy lately reporting on live music venues around Boston that are closing. So naturally, we’ve been keeping tabs on any new potential venues, and that includes City Winery.
The venue, which combines live music with a restaurant and “urban winery”, will soon be coming to 1 Canal Street in the Bulfinch Triangle Historic District, just outside North Station and across the street from the Haymarket MBTA stop. But while initial reports earlier this year targeted an October opening, a new-ish note posted on the venue’s website now suggests the room could pop its cork after the New Year, sometime in “early 2017”.
Of course, City Winery isn’t a dirty rock club. It’s billed as an “intimate concert venue, award-winning urban winery, and restaurant offering wine inspired, locally sourced fare, City Winery is a place to indulge your senses.” The bio on citywinery.com/boston goes on to state: “City Winery is committed to providing the highest-end combined culinary and cultural experience to wine enthusiasts in a world class, luxury concert setting.”
The first one opened in 2008, and locations in New York (pictured up top), Chicago, Nashville, and Atlanta have catered to an older clientele. To get a sense of what could be coming to the Boston location, here’s what’s coming to City Winery’s New York spot in the next few weeks: Toad The Wet Sprocket (August 22), Evan Dando of The Lemonheads (August 26), The English Beat (September 2 and 4), The Low Anthem (September 3), Peter Wolf (September 8, 9, and 10), Matthew Sweet (September 21), and 10 nights with Gregg Allman in November.
