Listen: iZotope crafts ‘Best of Boston’ summer playlist to help you beat the heat

When it’s not busy hosting the ongoing State of Live Music in Boston forums or developing the latest in music technology and software, the Cambridge camp known as iZotope has been busy discovering new bands. Late last month, it posted its first Sounds Of The Summer compilation, a 13-song playlist of national acts currently flying under the radar. This week, it has topped that with Vol. 2, a look at relative upstarts in the local music scene for a new 15-track comp titled “Best Of Boston”.

“We know the Boston music scene has a lot more going on than just the acts who have seen mainstream success,” iZotope writes. “As part of our Sounds of Summer series, we dug deep into the stacks of wax over at SoundCloud to highlight some of the great music being made in Boston. With so much to choose from, it’s hard to narrow it down, so we tried to focus on the burgeoning electronic music, hip-hop, and indie rock scenes.”

The comp features Vanyaland faves like psych-folk crew Quilt, EDM duo Case & Point, guitar-rock dudes the Rare Occasions, and the redefined pop of Bent Knee, as well as a bunch of newer bands destined for bigger stages, like Photocomfort and Boston Cherry.

iZotope says it set “some simple criteria” for inclusion on the comp, which are: “Feature original, up-and-coming artists with less than 50,000 listens; Their homebase is within 75 miles of Boston; Original sounds outside of the mainstream.”
