Not Lying: Henry Rollins announces new Dinosaur Jr. album ‘Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not’

Guitar solo junkies, stoner fuzz enthusiasts, and people who like J Mascis’ signature twang rejoice! Amherst alternative rock legends Dinosaur Jr. have announced the release of their 11th album Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not, and it’ll be out August 5 off indie label Jagjaguwar.

It marks the band’s fourth album since the 2005 reunion of Mascis with original members Lou Barlow on bass and Murph on drums. Following a series on consistently great releases with 2007’s Beyond, 2009’s Farm, and 2012’s I Bet On Sky, patterns say that the trio will continue to put out quality tunes within the upcoming album. To celebrate all this good news, Dinosaur Jr. will also be performing on British music showcase Later… with Jools Holland tonight (11 p.m. BST).

The actual announcement of Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not’s release comes with a video featuring ex-Black Flag frontman, spoken word artist, and media personality Henry Rollins. A camera walks into a room filled with CDs and vinyl records, and eventually pans to Rollins with a surprised and pleasant look on his face. He goes on to talk about how the viewer might find it odd to find him in a room full of records without any lights on and even stranger, to find him in a room full of records without any clothes on. Rollins then exclaims how great the upcoming album from Dinosaur Jr. is and that we should all grab a copy of it when it comes out. Watch it below.

Starting next month, Mascis, Barlow, and Murph will be kicking off a tour of North America and Europe (and one night in Japan). New Englanders can check out Dinosaur Jr. at The Met in Pawtucket on July 14 and then on July 19 at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston with Jane’s Addiction and Living Colour. That stop in Japan, notably, will be at the Hostess Club All-Nighter in Tokyo on August 20 as part of the SummerSonic festival.

Check out all the dates, and the album’s colorful artwork, once Rollins stops talking.
