How The Night Stacks Up:

It's the last night of the week-long preliminary round, and any bit of Rumble fatigue should be cast away right as the first band takes the stage. It's no secret that we love the "randomness" of the Rumble lineups, and the Saturday night party delivers a bill that's oddly cohesive and batshit bonkers at the same time. This is the lineup of some hotshot's birthday party, the type of guy or gal who loves everyone and thinks they all love him or her back, and shows off some gall by booking disparate styles all together under one show: the intelligent rock band (Courage Cloak), the balls-out guitar punks (The Knock Ups), the throwback noir-punk trio (The Devil's Twins) and the electronic project (usLights). Things will probably get silly. Things probably already are.

11:00 p.m.: The Devil’s Twins

HOMETOWN: Boston, Massachusetts

SONG YOU NEED TO HEAR: “Little Black Sweater” from their 2013 record Old Fashioned Mischief

BIO: Employing a stylish mix of punk, 1950’s rock & roll, and contemporary song structures underneath dueling vocals, are The Devil’s Twins. The catchy, yet haunting vocal style of brother and sister Nikki Coogan and Jeremiah Louf — atop pounding drums provided by Ryan Manning – and a wall of sound generated by only one guitar is what defines the unique sound that is best described as “noir punk” by press and fans alike. They’ve gained a reputation for being a high energy spectacle touching on a wide range of emotions; from explosive anger tantrums—beating guitars and tambourines into the stage—to whiskey-soaked, old-fashioned foot stompers, all while keeping it light between songs with playful banter between the trio and the crowd.

VIDEO YOU NEED TO WATCH: Their 2014 cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Cola”.

WHY THEY CAN WIN: Because they are bold, they are brash, and the are beautiful. And they have been waiting for a forum like this to show Boston that they are one of the city’s best and purest rock and roll bands out on the scene today. We aren’t saying they will win the Rock And Roll Rumble, but we would not be surprised if this was the band that injected the greatest volume of swagger into the ONCE hall, elevated their game beyond all expectation, and wore the motherfucking crown by month’s end. (This is not a prediction; we just think they rule.)
