Music itself and the community that embodies it is still reeling from last month's passing of the legendary David Bowie. Recently Lady Gaga paid tribute to Bowie at The Grammys by putting her own spin on the Ziggy Stardust look and performing a stunning medley of the Starman's material. Wednesday night at The BRIT Awards, Lorde performed "Life On Mars" with Bowie's backing band to critical acclaim. Locally in Providence, Bowie Love just took place at The Salon last week, featuring performances from rock acts Holy Roller High and The Sugar Cones along with the subtle soulful acoustics from "The Maiden Of Madness" Stephanie Carey among others.
Before February ends there will be another all-star Bowie tribute happening in The Creative Capital with immense talents taking the stage this Saturday.
Prog-glam rockers Arc Iris are putting together an extravaganza in celebration of Bowie's legacy with a stacked bill at the Columbus Theatre. Roz Raskin from Roz and The Rice Cakes, Brown Bird member and the nucleus behind The Huntress and Holder Of Hands MorganEve Swain, the intergalactic art organization and funk band Big Nazo, dream folk act Death Vessel, soulful songwriter Emma Corbin, Rafay Rashid from Ravi Shavi and Happiness, bluesman Brian Webb, the gothic tones of Allysen Callery, The 'Mericans' Chris Daltry, Northampton power pop act The Sun Parade, The Horse-Eyed Men and more will be performing Bowie songs all night long while fans from all over pay their last respects to the fallen rock star.
It sounds like it's going to be a blast and with the amount of musical aptitude in one building, who knows what'll happen? There might be even a once in a lifetime collaboration for the ages going on. All the proceeds from the show will go to benefit the arts education non-profit New Urban Arts and the LGBTQQ organization Youth Pride, Inc.
