Watch Eugene Mirman and a theremin battle Dinosaur Jr. on stage in New York

Dinosaur Jr. wrap up a run of seven sold-out shows tonight at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, all to celebrate the Massachusetts rock band’s 30th anniversary. The previous six nights have been star-studded affairs, joined on stage along the way by the likes of Henry Rollins, My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields, Kurt Vile, Jeff Tweedy, Thalia Zedek, Bill Janovitz of Buffalo Tom, Kim Gordon and others.

Each guest appearance has been post-worthy, as J Mascis and company are busting out old favorites, covers, and other treats so loud you can hear them all the way in Amherst. But one collaboration really caught our attention, and a snippet was captured by Instagram of The Whale Guitar Project (which we featured a few weeks ago): Best Dude Ever Eugene Mirman and a theremin doing sonic battle with Mascis and his guitar for an improvisational jam session.

Head explode, ears explode.

The comedian, writer, Lexington High School grad, and voice of Gene Belcher on Bob’s Burgers duels to the audible death with Mascis’ mastery of noise, and the only thing disappointing is that this clip is just a taste of what went down last night.

Check it out below, watch it on a loop, and wait patiently for the whole thing to surface on the internet (also check out the rest of the Whale Guitar’s Insta for a bunch of other clips from Dino’s entire week in NYC):
