Blur are set to perform their biggest non-festival North American dates next week, a double-header on both coasts that finds the reunited Britpop band playing the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (October 20) and New York’s Madison Square Garden (October 23). So naturally, Rolling Stone caught up with frontman Damon Albarn on a variety of topics, including Blur 2.0, that new Gorillaz record, and the 20th anniversary of the Battle of Britpop that pitted his group against Oasis back in 1995.
Albarn also mentioned bringing an American comedian to join the band on stage for sing-along spoken-word hit “Parklife,” a narration role made famous two decades ago by British actor Phil Daniels.
Mike Myers, apparently, couldn’t do it. The interviewer’s suggestion of Jerry Seinfeld was brushed aside. You know where this is headed. A bit later in the interview, Albarn sets the wheels in motion.
What about American politics? Any thoughts on Donald Trump?
Hmm. Maybe we could get him to do “Parklife” with us!
