As longtime Somerville live music venue Johnny D’s prepares to close early next year, several notable bands from the past few decades are being invited back for one last party.
The Davis Square stage is starting to roll out its “Local Legends” series, which will pair a band from Johnny D’s past with a newer, up-and-coming act. Among the first to perform this January are the Stompers (January 8), Robin Lane and the Chartbusters (January 15), and Jon Butcher Axis (January 22).
“In the spirit of celebrating its history, as well as other legendary venues of the past, we are putting together a series of ‘Local Legends’ shows that will feature some of the Boston area’s legendary performers of the past, present and future,” writes promoter Sean McNally on social media. “Most nights of this series will offer two shows. The early show features a legendary act playing one final show at the club, as in ‘Legendary Bands, Legendary Club, One Last Time at Johnny D’s’, followed by a separate show later that night featuring some of the area’s best up-and-coming acts. If you buy a ticket for the Legends show, you get to stick around for the ‘Legends-To-Be’ late show for FREE!”
Tickets for each show of the series start at $19.69, to commemorate Johnny D’s first year of live music, and on-sales begin this Friday. The flyer below has more details, and we’ll post more information, as well as news on the later acts, as it becomes available.
