Charli XCX says new album inspired by ‘Paris Hilton, small dogs and a glitter, luxe lifestyle’

Charli XCX was supposed to perform in Boston tonight, but a few weeks ago bailed on her co-headlining tour with Bleachers. So instead of looking forward to seeing her perform hits like “Boom Clap” and “Break The Rules” this evening at the House of Blues, we’re instead looking forward to her new album.

And in a recent interview with UK publication The Mirror, Ms. XCX gave a little glimpse into what we can expect from the songwriter who also co-penned Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and Icona Pop’s “I Love It.”

“It’s definitely the most electronic pop sound I’ve done. I’ve been really inspired by Paris Hilton, small dogs and a glitter, luxe lifestyle,” Charli says. “I’ve never met Paris before, but we were both at the amFAR Gala during the Cannes Film Festival this year. I was performing and I saw her singing along to my song and I freaked out. I’m such a fan and one of my favorite songs ever is ‘Stars Are Blind’ – it’s pop genius.”

Ok then.

When Charli XCX pulled out of her co-headlining tour with Bleachers, she said in a lengthy statement that needed to “be creative” and focus on writing music. That apparently includes collaborating with Rihanna.

“I’m a really big Rihanna fan and I think she’s such an incredible artist,” she says, via the Mirror. “She’s my favourite pop girl. She’s the real deal. I’ve actually been to a couple of writing sessions for Rihanna’s new record. It was really fun to put together a couple of tracks.”
