Spoken Gent: Watch badass Sam Elliott give a dramatic reading of Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’

The world works in mysterious ways. Yesterday evening, while winding down from another successful pool party at the Verb Hotel, we took in some a bit of Patrick Swayze rough n’ tumble flick Road House, which was playing on CMT for whatever reason. During Sam Elliott’s scenes, we marveled at how his goddamned cool the actor is, and started Googling him. Instead of being immediately directed to IMDB or somewhere like a Big Lebowski or Tombstone fan site, Google News brought us to a recent video of the Hollywood gunslinger narrating lyrics to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood”.

And with his country drawl and deadpan cool, the 71-year-old California native nails it.

How cool is Sam Elliott? Seriously.

“My apologies to Taylor Swift,” he tells the RedEye Chicago cameras and interviewer, who seem to have sprang the assignment on him without his prior knowledge. “Are you going to get sued by her? Am I? You could care less about that.”

With fleeting legal worries behind him, he dives in. Expect him to be a guest during Swift’s 1989 arena tour any day now. After a few days off — Swift will premiere “Wildest Dreams” tonight at MTV Video Music Awards though — the tour picks back up September 4 in Salt Lake City before two nights in Denver (September 5 and 6) before headed to Houston on September 9. That Texas show would be perfect for Elliott.
