Wet The Appetite: How to make the most of this Saturday’s Pool Party at the Verb Hotel

This Saturday, we’re helping close out the summer with our third and final — as of press time — pool party at the Verb Hotel in the Fenway. This “Last Splash” once again teams up our friends at Downeast Cider, Notch Brewing Company, and theFenway.com, welcomes Hojoko into the mix, and the early forecast looks promising, with sunny skies and temperatures expected in the low 80s. There are some added elements to this third fun-filled go-round by the pool, so we whipped up another handy guide to keep you in the loop. Be sure to RSVP via the V:List, and don’t forget to bring your bathing suit, a healthy thirst, and a hearty appetite.

1. Get there early.

The RSVP list is once again filling up fast, and the Verb can only accommodate so many people.
And as with most events in late-August, there’s going to be a mad dash to cling to summer, so make sure your name is on the list — this is a private, 21-plus event, after all — and roll up early. Preferably before the noon start time. The drinks are coldest when the sun is at its highest point. That’s science.

2. Take the T to the Verb, or park around Boylson Street

Our friendly Fenway neighbors, the Boston Red Sox, are on the road this weekend, leaving the ‘hood to us. How nice of them! Street parking should be readily available along Boylston Street and around Fenway, and there are a limited number of valet spaces at the Verb for a visitor fee of $15. Of course, the easiest method of transportation is taking the MBTA to Kenmore Square and then walking over. Or just Uber it to 1271 Boylston St.

3. Shout out to our sponsors.

Appropriate for the season, refreshments will be provided by Notch Brewing’s “American Session Beer” (@NotchBrewing) and Downeast Cider House’s “New England’s Craft Cider” (@DowneastCider). There is no cost to imbibe, but be responsible and play it safe. No one like a Pool Party Pooper. There will be plenty for everyone, served up by our friends at The Fenway.

4. Hojoko Rules

Since we previously splashed pink streaks across the Verb pool, the hotel’s excellent restaurant, Hojoko has opened its gates. Owned by James Beard Award-winning Chef Tim Cushman and Nancy Cushman, it’s the spot that not only houses the T.T. The Bear’s Place stage banner, but also serves up some excellent Japanese cuisine and cocktails. They’ll be open for business and offering snacks from an exclusive menu all afternoon long to the tables set up between the restaurant and the pool, so you can get your eats on this Saturday as well. And the Fenway peeps will also be serving up complimentary popcorn and frozen treats if you want to keep that figure intact.

5. Boston’s New Alternative.

We have many cool promotions lined up with the Verb, and one of them includes VanyaRadio soundtracking the hotel. So for this event we’ll be broadcasting our online alt-pop radio station for the duration of the party, curating and crafting a master playlist appropriate for a fun day out in the sun and in the pool. Everything from Charli XCX and Say Lou Lou to Grizfolk and the Struts.

6. There’s an extra hour

Because the Verb rules, both our pool parties this summer have “unofficially” extended past the stated 3 p.m. end time. So we’ve tacked on an extra hour to Saturday’s event, giving us another 60 minutes of tunes, treats, and swims — and afterwards we’ll probably all chill out at Hojoko’s bar anyway. So make a day of it.

7. Have fun.

Here in Boston, you never know when the summer will begin, and when it will end. So come out this Saturday and raise a few Notchs and Downeast Ciders with us by the pool. Autumn will be here before we know it, and no one can go swimming in scarf weather. Bring good vibes and let’s party it up.
