When the Zombies head out on a North American tour this fall to play classic 1968 album Odessey and Oracle in its entirety — including an October 6 stop at the Wilbur Theatre — the legendary psych-pop group won’t be leaning totally on familiar hits.
That’s because today the band announced a record deal with The End Records/ADA, which will issue new album Still Got That Hunger. The new record drops October 9.
“We’re really excited to be signing our new album to The End Records,” says the Zombies’ Rod Argent in a press release, “it somehow seems fitting that it should be released on a Brooklyn based label, as our very first American concerts way back in 1964 took place at The Brooklyn Fox Theatre!”
Still Got That Hunger was produced by Chris Potter, he of The Verve’s Urban Hymns, Rolling Stones’ Steel Wheels, and others, and will be released both digitally and physically.
Some fine print on the upcoming tour: “For the first time ever, the group will bring Odessey & Oracle to American stages. All four surviving original members will recreate the seminal album in its entirety with full instrumentation. Founding and current members, vocalist Colin Blunstone and keyboardist Rod Argent, will be joined by original bassist/co-songwriter Chris White and drummer Hugh Grundy for their first American tour together in five decades. The show will also feature the acclaimed current Zombies’ line-up featuring bassist Jim Rodford (formerly of ARGENT and The Kinks), Rodford’s son Steve Rodford on drums, and renowned session guitarist Tom Toomey, performing material from their forthcoming studio album.”
