Watch the Libertines walk through Thailand in new video for comeback single ‘Gunga Din’

The Libertines unlikely (or likely, depending on your views of things) comeback has some deep roots in Thailand. Guitarist Pete Doherty underwent recent rehabilitation there, the band’s upcoming record Anthems For Doomed Youth was recorded over six weeks earlier this year at Karma Sound Studios outside Bang Saray, and now the Libertines can be seen in full effect walking the streets of the country’s red light district in the new video for “Gunga Din”.

The song — the first off Anthems For Doomed Youth, due September 4 via Harvest Records — was premiered moments ago by Annie Mack on Radio 1. She asked singer/guitarist Carl Barat what “Gunga Din” was about, but we couldn’t understand what the funk he was ranting on about, so we’ll just assume it’s about a character from the Star Wars prequels.

The “Gunga Din” video, which you can watch below, was directed by the longtime Libertines photographer Roger Sargent. Last night, the band officially announced their new record, their third overall and first since 2004’s self-titled LP.

Welcome back, lads. Check the record’s album art after the video jump.
