Drink Yrself Clean: LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy to open wine bar in Brooklyn

Well, this is happening: James Murphy plans to open a wine bar in Brooklyn.

The LCD Soundsystem mastermind and his wife, Christina Topsoe, have targeted early June as the opening of a natural wine bar named Four Horsemen, located in Williamsburg. It will feature up to 350 wine selections, and offer food, reports the New York Times.

And Murphy himself has developed the acoustics of the bar. “That’s why it doesn’t sound cavernous,” he says. “All people will know is that they’re happy. They’ll not feel the unpleasantness.”

Here’s more from Eater NYC:

The idea has been in the works for a long time. “We’ve been talking about this for years,” wine consultant and friend of Murphy Justin Chearno told the Times.

The bar’s initial 160 bottle selection, which will eventually grow to 350 offerings, focuses on natural wines, but “We’re not dogmatic,” Murphy tells Jeff Gordinier. “Like, we don’t want to be part of an argument. If I opened a record store, it wouldn’t be all punk rock and esoterica.”

To go with all of those wines will be snacks and larger plates from Franny’s alum Nick Curtola. “We keep calling it a wine bar because we want to underpromise and overdeliver,” he explains. “It has to be economically sustainable. It’s not a vanity project.”

As the NME notes, this isn’t Murphy’s first venture into things you can drink. Last year, he “launched his own coffee brand called House Of Good, made in collaboration with coffee company Blue Bottle. Its flavour has been described as ‘syrupy, well-balanced and thoroughly accessible’ with tones of ‘dried cherry, cocoa, meyer lemon.'”

Delicious.

just building a wine list while sitting in a construction site. and not the site for the wine bar. which is extra weird.
