Yesterday online video website YouTube, the third-most trafficked website in the world according to Alexa, celebrated its 10th anniversary. On April 23, 2005, a 19-second video of co-founder Jawed Karim talking about his day at the San Diego Zoo was posted, and a revolution was underway.
While pretty much everyone uses YouTube to view home videos, movie trailers, breaking news, and cat videos (oh, so many awesome cat videos), the site has also brought the music video back from the dead, re-instilling its art form ideology that became lost in the early 2000s.
According to Parade, it’s estimated that “YouTube has over 1 billion unique visitors every month and that over 300 hours of video are uploaded every minute.”
It got us thinking: What are the most-viewed music videos of all time? Here’s the Top 10, according to recently YouTube Charts. There are some familiar names, some WTFs, and only two videos that crossed the billion-view mark — but some are fast approaching that milestone.
