Rhett Miller of Dallas-based alternative country band Old 97s is playing Johnny D’s in Somerville next month in support of new solo album The Traveler. But if you went to his website to find upcoming tour dates or info on the record, you’ll instead find a rather unexpected message.
Either Miller has joined Islamic militant group ISIS — or his website has been hacked.
We’ll guess it’s the latter, as the musician’s solo homepage appears to have been taken over by ISIS sympathizer and “anti-Israel activist” group Team System DZ. The site displays a message declaring a love for ISIS and a threatening message to governments around the world.
“I just found out about it half an hour ago,” Miller tells the Dallas Morning News. “I was eating a nice Indian dinner.” He adds: “I kinda take it as a compliment,” says Miller. “Apparently I’m famous enough for someone to [eff] up my website.”
Perhaps it has to do with Miller’s middle name of “Ransom”?
Either way, The Traveler is out May 12, and Miller plays Johnny D’s the next night.
Here’s a screen grab of the message on the musician’s site as of 8:15 p.m. EST:
