Kurt Cobain isn’t the only member of the infamous 27 Club getting the documentary treatment his year. Amy, the new doc about the life of troubled British singer Amy Winehouse, hits UK theaters July 3, and a teaser trailer has been posted online this morning.
The two-hour film from BAFTA-winning director Asif Kapadia arrives four years after her July 23, 2011 death at the age of 27, and details her life and music career with in-depth early interviews and features unseen archive footage and unheard tracks.
Winehouse’s new brand of soul included hits like “Rehab,” “Valerie” and “Back to Black,” and her sophomore album, Back to Black, won five Grammys and sold more than 20 million copies around the world. She died of alcohol poisoning, and in the years leading up to her death was a fixture in the British tabloids.
