Wilco won’t be playing Indiana anytime soon.
The Chicago indie rock band announced it has cancelled a May 7 show at Indianapolis venue the Murat over the proposed Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which allows businesses to discriminate based on their religious beliefs.
Wilco posted the following message moments ago to their Facebook page:
We are canceling our May 7 show at the Murat in Indianapolis. The “Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act” feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination to us. Hope to get back to the Hoosier State someday soon, when this odious measure is repealed. Refunds available at point of purchase.
While others have called for a boycott of Indiana due to the proposed law, Wilco appears to be the first music group to cancel an appearance because of it.
The rest of the band’s 20th anniversary tour will go on as planned. Wilco play Western Mass’s Solid Sound Festival the weekend of June 26 to 28. Get the full run of dates here.
More to come.
