Tell Tale Signs: Frank Turner played a surprise Friday night set at McGreevy’s in Boston


With a few days to kill before his next show Sunday night in Ottawa, Frank Turner spent Friday night performing an intimate solo set at McGreevy’s Pub on Boylston Street in Boston. The English folk/punk songwriter said he was in town “to pick up equipment and beat jetlag for a couple of days,” and ended up treating a crowd of 300 or so fans to tunes at the bar owned by Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphys.

“There’s only really one place to go drinking in Boston for me and my crew… @McGreevysBoston,” Turner tweeted out earlier on Friday, before officially announcing the gig on social media around 6 p.m. EST. It looks like some tweets back-and-forth between Turner and Casey helped inspire the impromptu gig.
