Vanyaland Premiere: Night Lights make it rain in new video for ‘Hit The Water’

While Boston’s rock and roll scene chugs along at its usual breakneck pace, the city’s alt-pop circuit has forcefully emerged from the colleges and dance parties, making its own claim to the forever-debated sound of our town. Somewhere between the two circles is Night Lights, a band born here in Boston but whose members trace their lineage back to hometowns in Mexico, Texas, Japan, and Norway.

The geographical cocktail lends itself well to Night Lights’ slick, polished alt-pop sound, which takes its cues from sources as varied as their places of birth. Today, we are excited to premiere the band’s new video for “Hit The Water,” which might feature the best use of indoor precipitation since Mike Patton swam with the fishes in Faith No More’s “Epic” video. Directed by Sam Harchik, the clip is available for viewing pleasures via YouTube below, and is the latest single off Night Lights’ Here We Come EP (their debut LP is expected this summer).

Back on dry land, Night Lights will be performing at the Vanyaland & Berklee College of Music “Boston & Beyond” party at SXSW on March 19 at Brush Square Park in Austin, Texas, alongside Radclyffe Hall, Avers, St. Nothing, Yellerkin, Ballroom Thieves, an others. Then once the SXSW dust settles, the band returns home to play Great Scott on March 27 with V:Music standout Verite.

Both events should be safe from any potential rain falling from above, but the forecast calls for a strong chance of melody and occasional fits of sunshine.
