Fade Away: Listen to Ride’s gorgeous acoustic rendition of shoegaze classic ‘Vapour Trail’

Last night reunited shoegaze luminaries Ride played their first live gig in 20 years last night — kinda, sorta.

Guitarists/vocalists Mark Gardener and Andy Bell played an hour-long acoustic set at London’s 100 Club for War Child’s Passport Back To The Bars charity series. With bassist Steve Queralt and drummer Loz Colbert in the crowd, Gardener and Bell stripped down a slew of classic Ride hits, including “Polar Bear,” “Dreams Burn Down,” and perhaps their finest effort of them all, the timeless 1990 track “Vapour Trail.”

Watch a fan-filmed video of “Vapour Trail” below, where towards the end, the two performers use their voices in lieu of the song’s trademark cello outro. [Note: kinda like we did back at the 2011 Pill Halloween Show when Boston trio Endless Wave performed as Ride, ahem.]

Ride’s first plugged-in show arrives in April at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California. The rest of the year finds the band playing a handful of headlining dates, including June 4 at New York’s Terminal 5, and festivals like Shaky Knees in Atlanta and Primavera Sound in Spain.
