Winterpol Strikes Back: Interpol cancel tonight’s House of Blues show in Boston

UPDATE 10:41 a.m. EST: Show organizers are characterizing this as a “postponement,” so there should be a rescheduled date in the coming weeks. We’ll post it as soon as it’s revealed.

After spending a few days trapped inside their tour bus due to blizzard conditions in Western New York, tonight’s Interpol show at the House of Blues in Boston has been cancelled.

The New York band, which yesterday was able to escape the bus after nearly 50 hours on a highway and take shelter in a Buffalo hotel, just relayed the news moments ago via Facebook:

We’re now stranded in Buffalo while we wait for the roads to open. We wish that we could venture to your fine city for the show tonight but it’s just not possible. It’s with great sadness that we have to announce the cancellation of the show at the House of Blues. We promise to make it up to you. Please hold on to your tickets for now until we make further announcements for a rescheduled date. We would have loved nothing more than to have brought some rock to you.

The trouble began earlier this week as the band was en route to Toronto from Columbus amid their recent El Pintor tour. While in the Buffalo area, a devastating snowstorm dropped several feet on the region, causing the band to be stranded in their bus for nearly three days.

Interpol documented their adventures on social media, taking photos of the white-out conditions and debating the merits of peanut butter with fans via Twitter.

But the situation has wreaked havoc on the northeastern leg of this tour. This would now be the third cancellation as a result of the storm with Boston’s gig joining previously nixed shows in Toronto and Montreal. Interpol’s next show is tomorrow night at Union Transfer in Philadelphia before three homecoming shows November 24 to 26 at Terminal 5 in New York City.

Below are some of their tweets from the past few days. And hat tip to Stereogum for coining Winterpol, effectively winning the Interpol are stuck in a blizzard pun game…
