So last night we co-presented a screening of Pulp: A Film About Life, Death, And Supermarkets at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, and though we thought the documentary left a bit to be desired, one character stuck in our minds long after the credits rolled: Bomar Faery.
Director Florian Habicht talks to all walks of Sheffield life in Pulp, and right there aged between the young kids who like “Disco 2000” and the (never-ending scenes of) old folks declaring their nonchalant love for Jarvis Cocker was this Faery fella.
Looking like an extra ripped from an early-90s Manic Street Preachers video and possessing something of a Marc Bolan-meets-Brett Anderson smirkish attitude, Faery spoke of his rough times in London before finding open arms (and a love) in Sheffield.
Labeled simply as a “musician” and referred to by merely “Bomar,” he spoke to Habicht out in some dodgy outdoor space, but that didn’t prevent his makeup from looking pretty impeccable. So as he went on and on about Pulp and how the band saved his life, we got to thinking, “This bloke must have himself a band.”
Of course he does.
That band, the glammed-out Faerground Accidents, have a new single out next week, titled “We Hate The Same Things,” with a release party in Manchester, England on Wednesday. They’ll also support Sleaford Mods at the O2 Academy in Sheffield on December 13. That’s a bit of a weird pairing but we’ll take it.
Listen to “We Hate The Same Things” below; the video has a bit of a “Metal Mickey” vibe to it.
We dig it, Bomar.
We dig it.
