Bad Town: Big D & The Kids Table to perform Operation Ivy’s ‘Energy’ at Brighton Music Hall

Boston ska veterans Big D & The Kid’s Table are having a pretty good end to 2014. The current Studio 52 featured artist of the week on VanyaRadio are about to take on Canada for a tour with Less Than Jake this month, and close out the year with a set at the Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ Hometown Throwdown at the House of Blues in late-December (on a bill with Fishbone, no less).

But what jumped out at us the most was the ska band’s show October 25 at Brighton Music Hall, when they’ll perform Operation Ivy’s classic 1989 album Energy in its entirety. For a city that drowns in Misfits and Weezer cover sets around Halloween, it’s pretty cool to see Big D take on every high school kid’s favorite record.

If the cover show thing ain’t your bag, fear not, Big D will be doing what’s billed as a “regular” show the night before, keeping not only with their Halloween show tradition, but also double-dipping at the Allston venue like they did last year just after the release of the Stomp/Stroll double LP.

Check out this 14 year old — 14!! — video of Big D playing OpIvy’s “Sound System,” at the old Karma club on Lansdowne Street.
