Post-Post-Libertine: Listen to the debut single from Carl Barât & the Jackals

Celebrated and reunited British rock band the Libertines are about to play three nights at London’s Alexandra Palace this weekend, but singer-guitarist Carl Barât has some other things on his mind, apparently.

This afternoon Barât unveiled the debut single from his new band, Carl Barât and the Jackals. “Glory Days” is a herky-jerky pub-rock track that has traces both of the Libertines and Barât’s late-2000s band the Dirty Pretty Things, and it’s available for free download through the Jackals website.

Produced by Joby J. Ford of the Bronx and recorded in Los Angeles, an as-yet-unnamed full-length will be out in early 2015 via Grand Jury Records in the US and Cooking Vinyl in the UK. It’ll feature guest musicians like Beastie Boys percussionist Alfredo Ortiz, and a band that was formed via online ads. Thousands of people replied, apparently.

“I actually started making this record solo, but the long and short of it is I just didn’t like my own company,” Barât says in a presser (what a fucking presser). “I was lucky, because I found a bunch of people who genuinely fit together as a gang.”
