Azealia Banks drops dark new track ‘Heavy Metal And Reflective’, produced by @LILINTERNET

Earlier this month when Azealia Banks declared she was free from her major label deal with Interscope, she also playfully mentioned that she wanted to join up with Interpol. Years ago Banks covered the fellow New York bands “Slow Hands,” but the name-drop also suggested her new music could take a darker turn.

Yesterday she unexpectedly dropped new single “Heavy Metal And Reflective,” off the upcoming and forever-delayed Broke With Expensive Taste, and it’s some sinister shit. Produced by “Yung Rapunxel” collaborator @LILINTERNET, he of infamous former Middlesex Lounge dance party Hearthrob (when he was DJing and promoting as Red Foxx), the new track is brooding and menacing.

“Heavy Metal And Reflective’s” synth line wobbles like a sword tossed through a rave tunnel while Banks slices through her verses in a way that recalls the magic she first flashed on the still-lethal 2011 track “212.”

Check out two thoughts from Banks and LIL below, then stream the track via Soundcloud. A music video for the joint is expected to drop on August 5. No doubt it’ll be bonkers.

“Heavy Metal And Reflective” is officially out on Tuesday via iTunes.
