Three Cheers For Solo Revenge: Listen to Gerard Way’s first song after My Chemical Romance

The news of My Chemical Romance’s inevitable breakup is still fresh in our heads, and no amount of watching the “Helena” video on OnDemand on repeat for days on end will ever bring the band back. Luckily, frontman Gerard Way has a new solo record due out this fall, and today we got the first taste of new music in lead single “Action Cat.”

Listen to the track below. It’s got a familiar vibe to it.

According to the NME, “the album sees Gerard on vocals, guitar and keyboard alongside Ian Fowles of The Aquabats on guitar, Matt Gorney on bass and Jarrod Alexander on drums.”

Way will be playing his first solo shows at the UK’s Reading and Leeds festivals. And as the NME notes, Way unveiled his own website earlier this year hinting at new music and other artistic treats.

“I am continuing full-steam into comics, art, and more importantly to some of you — music,” he wrote. “I am pleased to let you know I am now signed as a solo artist [to] Warner Bros Records. My album is near completion, and you should expect to hear things in the near future, even today actually- with a brief snippet of what is to come. I am excited. It’s starting again.”
