Boston modern rock band Cooling Towers started writing new material back in December, long before “conscious uncoupling” was a thing and the divorce between Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow hit the tabloids.
One of Cooling Towers’ new tunes was titled “Apple Martin,” after the couple’s young daughter, because early compositions had a bit of a Coldplay flair to it. “Not really about a divorce, just a cancelled engagement,” offers frontman Commodore Vic.
It was produced by Boothnavy and Danny Gold of Lifestyle, and features Tony Savarino of Garvy J. on guitar and Anna Perlmutter of Stitchcraft on violin.
The track’s title stuck, and now the melancholy number is the first taste of new music and a proper warm-up for the band’s gig tomorrow night at T.T. The Bear’s Place in Cambridge. Also on the bill are Sparhawks, Sarah Rabdau & Self-Employed Assassins, and Northampton’s Spanish For Hitchhiking.
Check out a demo cut for “Apple Martin” below, and pour one out on Brookline Street for her poor parents.
