This is the latest in a series of spotlights on the bands and artists participating in the 2014 Boston & Beyond party at SXSW, a collaborative effort between Berklee College of Music and Vanyaland. The party is Thursday, March 13 at Brush Square Park (409 East 5th St.) in Austin, runs from noon to 6 p.m., and is free, all-ages, and open to the public. RSVP to sxswrsvp@berklee.edu for entry.

Cask Mouse, 1 p.m. set time
Cask Mouse is the bull in your china shop. After adding a bit of alt-country twang to the Rock And Roll Rumble back in 2012, the Allston-based Americana crew unleashed Heartbeat of the Northeast early last year, an eight-track collection of fiddle n’ whiskey tunes that are one well-timed NPR spotlight away from national acclaim.
But their songs are already being recognized by other songwriters. Los Angeles pop-rock upstart Drake Bell covered “Bull” for his new record Ready Steady Go — maybe the best instant cover of a new song since the Pixies took on “Head On” by the Jesus & Mary Chain.
Cask Mouse should get used to others jacking their boot-stomping sound — through covers or simple inspiration. Get acquainted with a selection of tracks below, and get those hands clapping…
