Noted Yankee fan and Bronx native Mary J. Blige to sing National Anthem at Fenway Park on Wednesday [UPDATE: poll added]

When the Boston Red Sox take the field for Game 1 of the 2013 World Series Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals, there will be no home field advantage during the National Anthem.

Boston’s WCVB Channel 5 is reporting that Bronx native and Yankee fan Mary J. Blige will be singing the Star Spangled Banner before the first pitch. According to WCVB:

Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Mary J. Blige will perform the national anthem prior to Game 1 of the 2013 World Series on Wednesday.

Blige previously performed the National Anthem at Yankee Stadium during the 2009 World Series.

Really? That’s the best MLB could do? Why not bring back the Dropkicks? Or keep it ultra local, and go with Bad Rabbits or Gentlemen Hall, who both of which had its members sing the anthem before New England Patriots games this season.

Shit, why not get Rene Rancourt out there? Bring the fistpumps over the baseball diamond.

UPDATE 2:48pm EST: Here are a few of our picks — who would YOU like to see sing on Wednesday (or Thursday, for that matter)?

Oh well. But if Nelly comes out to sing in St. Louis before Games 3, 4 or 5* (if necessary), there will be hell to pay.

BTW, here’s Mary J looking forward to a Yankees victory in 2009.
