Danzig spots a man recording his performance, urges Florida crowd to ‘punch that fucking asshole’

Pro tip: When Danzig comes to Worcester this Saturday for the second day of Rock & Shock, don’t whip out your camera and start recording his performance. Granted, there will probably be a bunch of signs asking you to not record the show on your phone, but just in case you miss the memo, ol’ Glenn will gladly interrupt the gig to tell you what’s up.

Last week in Ybor City, Florida, Danzig was crooning along to the opening lines of lucifuge’s “Blood & Tears” when he cut out and told the Cuban Club crowd: “Somebody punch that fucking asshole right there.”

The “fucking asshole,” in this case, was a dude recording the show on his phone, right up front, and the guy (username: filicid) went on to upload the clip to YouTube under the title “Glenn Danzig is an Asshole.” It’s like one of those nature scenes where a camera is attached to the prey, and the predator suddenly notices its next meal and attacks. The :50 clip cuts out right as the crowd swallows filicid up.

A few weeks ago Vanyaland caught up with Ian Astbury, and he had just confronted a fan who had been filming a Cult show. “It’s kind of a disease that we have where people aren’t present and after while it kind of trips you up, it becomes a distraction. Usually you don’t let things like that trip you out, but when it’s right in front of you doing it…” Astbury added: “The only thing you have control over is the performance environment. When you have habitual filming going on, it’s disruptive to the performance. When you’ve got someone visualizing the show through a cell phone, that action spreads out through the crowd.”

According Gawker, filicid didn’t see any of the signs prohibiting videoing, and got back into the venue after he got kicked out. He also claims he bought the Danzig ticket via Groupon and got a free drink, too.

Guess the joke’s on us.
