Michael Christopher named managing editor of Vanyaland

Vanyaland today has named Michael Christopher its managing editor, effective immediately.

Christopher was one of the online music magazine’s founding writers at its May launch, and has continued to be a main contributor in both features and news. He will focus on his Q&A series as well as take on a greater editorial role in shaping the website’s voice, according to Vanyaland founder and editor-in-chief Michael Marotta.

“Michael Christopher has proved time and time again that he’s one of the best music writers in Boston, and understands the vision of what Vanyaland is all about,” says Marotta. “We first started working together at the Boston Phoenix, and I’m thrilled to not only continue to showcase his work, which is both engaging and entertaining, but also allow his editorial vision to grow with ours.”

In addition to posting new music, breaking news and countless interviews, Christopher’s On Sound Q&A series has become a popular feature that discusses music with the likes of Bar Rescue’s Jon Taffer, Olympic diver Greg Louganis, and Adam Carolla.

“Having been a part of the relaunch since day one, my impassioned belief that Vanyaland isn’t just the future but the now is strengthened daily,” Christopher says. “I’m looking forward to playing a major role in taking us to new levels as managing editor.”

Based in Boston and dedicated to covering the music both its hometown and around the world, Vanyaland was launched on May 15, 2013, less than two months after the closing of the Boston Phoenix. Currently, eight music writers who contributed to the Phoenix can now be read on Vanyaland, the city’s newest platform for what’s going on in Boston and beyond.
