Icona Pop get dark on ‘My Party,’ a new collaboration track with NYC rapper Zebra Katz

A few weeks ago we were wondering aloud how Icona Pop have really crystallized their bratty, anthemic electro-pop sound, with one banger track after another (“Girlfriend,” “All Night”) following the mega-success of “I Love It.”

But now comes “My Party,” a collaboration track with New York rapper Zebra Katz that finds the Swedish pop duo getting a little bit darker, even approaching MIA and Santogold territory. The cut builds off Lesley Gore’s 1965 classic “It’s My Party,” and gets Caroline and Aino into reggae mode. Oddly enough, “My Party” won’t be featured on Icona Pop’s debut album, This Is… Icona Pop, which is out September 24 and features all the known singles plus six new tracks.

Check out “My Party” via their soundcloud, as well as the This Is… track listing and Icona Pop’s full run of North American tour dates, which hits the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on September 19. They got K-Flay and Sirah in tow for that one.
