We’re suddenly festival-crazed around our town lately, and it turns out Boston Calling won’t be the only live music action to hit City Hall Plaza in the coming weeks. The Outside The Box lineup was recently announced, and its a pretty cool effort for the eight-day music and performance art gathering that starts July 13 and hits various spots around the city, all free and open to the public.
Among the participating bands, playing anywhere from the Plaza to multiple stages around Boston Common, are the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Buffalo Tom, Air Traffic Controller, Abadabad, Bearstronaut, Shea Rose, Sarah Blacker, David Wax Museum, Gentlemen Hall, Nemes, McAlister Drive, Tallahassee, Boys Like Girls, the Lemonheads, the Sheila Divine, the Brew, Joe Fletcher & the Wrong Reasons, Coyote Kolb, Art Decade, and Will Dailey & the Rivals.
Pretty good haul right there. On a first casual glance of the calendar, it looks like the two most intriguing shows are Gentlemen Hall, Abadabad, Bearstronaut, and David Wax Museum at City Hall Plaza on Thursday, July 19 starting around 3pm; and then Buffalo Tom, the Lemonheads and the Bosstones on the Boston Common’s Beacon Stage Saturday, July 20 starting at 5pm.
Of course, that’s just one opinion, and there’s a lot offered here despite it being stretched and spaced out over more than a week’s time.
There is also a bevy of art, theatre, spectacle art, and family performances and exhibits, and all that info — along with schedules and full lineup designations — can be found on the Outside The Box homepage.
