Noel Gallagher has a new song out today, but let’s not get too worked up — it doesn’t rank among the Top 20 songs he’s ever written, according to the former Oasis guitarist.
“Do The Damage” is the b-side to Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ latest single, “In The Heat Of The Moment,” out November 17. It’s an upbeat number that’s got a nice bit of sax to it and rings along like a post-Britpop number from the late-’90s.
But Noelly G says it’s a b-side for a reason.
“‘Do The Damage’? It might be the 23rd best song I ever wrote,” he quips, via the NME. “It was — for about a year — gonna be the opening track on the album until the 22nd best song I ever wrote appeared.”
Of course, the relegation of a song to b-side status means very little to most fans of Oasis, a band who churned out so many excellent non-album cuts (“Acquiesce,” “Talk Tonight,” “Going Nowhere”) they released a full collection of them to critical acclaim (1998’s The Masterplan).
Listen to “Do The Damage” below, and make note: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ new album Chasing Yesterday is due in March.
