The recent kinda-sorta heatwave around Boston over the past few days has pushed autumn’s inevitable roar out of our minds for a bit, but there’s just no denying that the cooler season is right around Labor Day’s abrupt corner.
Le Roxy Pro, a new musical project from the Wandas’ Brent Battey, isn’t letting the late-August calendar diminish their summer plans, releasing debut video for the loose, breezy pop tune “Coral Coralles” earlier this month in advance of the band’s inaugural live show tomorrow night (8/28) at Great Scott in Allston.
“Coral Coralles” is the lead offering from an entire album of new material from Battey (out yesterday via iTunes and on vinyl), who for the surf culture-inspired Le Roxy Pro enlisted much help from those around him.
“I wrote this album when my band, the Wandas, decided to take its first break in 10 years,” Battey says. “It started as a solo record that shifted to a conglomerate amalgamation as I got my favorite players from my favorite Boston bands on the jams.
Those players include Nick Grieco (the Field Effect), Jen de la Osa and Henry Beguiristain (Aloud), Greg Settino (Tiger City), Paul Sentz and Ana Karina DaCosta (Slowdim), and a handful of others, as well as Wandas bandmates Keith McEachern and Ross Lucivero.
The result is one big beach party.
“I’ve always loved surf jams; I’ve always loved rock music; I’ve always loved making music with my friends and here it all is in one beachy shot,” Battey says. “Because these are, as they say, the sickest of the jams.”
