The MTV Video Music Awards return to Los Angeles — and our living rooms — next month, and to celebrate, the network is slowly rolling out the nominees this morning via Snapchat.
We’re already feeling a few of the nods, like Charli XCX for Artist To Watch (for “Boom Clap”) and Katy Perry and Juicy J in Best Collaboration (for “Dark Horse”). But the heavyweight category — Video of the Year 2014 — is locked and loaded, and it’s a doozy: Beyonce and Jay Z, Miley Cyrus, Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX, Sia, and Pharrell Williams. “Dark Horse” snub, anyone?
The Best Rock Video category, by the way, is once again a joke, and a pretty scathing indictment on the current landscape of rock and roll. Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Arctic Monkeys, Linkin Park, and Black Keys will all duke it out.
We’ll no doubt have more on this annual late-summer shitshow as the date draws near, but in the meantime, here’s a refresher on MTV’s nominations for Best Video. You know who we’re voting for.
The 2014 MTV VMAs air live on Sunday, August 24.
