Friends of Anderson Mar turn her planned birthday show into a celebration of the late musician’s life

Boston musician, instructor, and promoter Anderson Lynne Mar was planning on spending her 42nd birthday this Friday at the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge, performing with her band, Sans Nomenclature, and others. Instead, Mar’s family and friends have come together to re-shape the night as a memorial and celebration of her life. Mar died last week after suffering injuries caused at a Fall River apartment fire.

At Friday’s “Club Bohemia” show in Central Square, the money raised at the door will go to the Boston School of Rock, where Mar taught music, as well as an appreciation for influential records and bands, to kids in the region.

“In light of the announcement of Anderson Mar’s passing today, we (the bands that are playing this show) have decided to donate the money from the door to Anderson’s family as a donation to a School of Rock scholarship in her name,” reads the Facebook event page for Friday show in at the Cantab’s Club Bohemia. “That school was one of her passions and we hope to honor her memory with this. Dead Harrison will be playing in San’s stead, there will be a toast in Anderson’s honor, and we’ll have a bucket out for anyone who wants to make an additional donation to the cause. If you can’t make it and still want to send money, hit up Drew from The Silent Order and he’ll make arrangements for it.”

Also performing are zeroNegative and Travel Amygdala.

The note concluded: “Guys, let’s pack this place to the rafters, throw back a few drinks, and remember what a good friend she was to all of us. I think it’s what she would have wanted.”

Also, a Facebook memorial page has been established for Mar’s friends and family to share stories and post other tribute events in her name. After about a week online, the page has nearly 1,400 likes.
