In addition to your ugly relatives, tomorrow also brings Thanksgivukkah, what happens when Thanksgiving runs late and Hanukkah starts early. These modern times are so busy, we’re now doubling up our holidays.
These modern times are also all about one other thing, and that’s Lorde’s “Royals,” no doubt the most covered/parodied/scrutinized/fapped to song of 2013. Everyone just loves the New Zealand teen pop princess-turned-queen (something we can all agree on, unlike, say, Haim), so who better than to provide the inspiration for Big Teeth Productions’ ode to Thanksgivukkah miracles, “Oils.”
I’m already working on my own “Royals” cover, about being born on Christmas Day. It’s called “Toy, all,” because we get double the gifts and not gypped like you’re thinking right now.
But there’s still a turkey to cook, so check the “Oils” lyrics below and sing along!
LYRICS
[Verse 1]
I always cooked a turkey in Novem[ber],
I lit my eight menorah candles in December.
But now my schedule’s a mess Because Hanukkah’s tied to Thanksgiving.
[Chorus]
Now everyone’s like Pilgrims, Indians, readers of the torah
Puritans, Wampanoag, dancers of the hora
We don’t care, we’re celebrating Thanksgivukkah.
And now the menus like stuffing, cranberry, turkey leg or brisket,
Manischewitz, pumpkin pie, holidays are mixing.
We don’t care, we’ll throw our dreidels in the air.
And we’ll always have oil (oil)
For frying our latkes.
It’s just about a month early
To honor Judah Maccabee.
It should be in winter (winter)
No more leaves on the ground.
Members of the tribe, the tribe, the tribe, the tribe
All together getting down.
[Verse 2]
My friends and I would watch football
We’d wait for Charlie Brown to fly in front of Macy’s.
Instead we’re filling up our gourds, with chocolate coins
it’s a horn of plenty.
[Verse 3]
Ooh ooh oh,
Thanksgiving plus Hanukkah
This is just meshugenah.
Ooh ooh oh,
Historically inaccurate
but we don’t really give a sh*t.
[Chorus]
And we’ll always have oil (oil)
For frying our latkes.
It’s just about a month early
To honor Judah Maccabee.
It should be in winter (winter)
No more leaves on the ground.
Members of the tribe, the tribe, the tribe, the tribe
All together getting down.
