Listen: The Wombats new single, ‘Your Body Is A Weapon,’ inspired by Harry Styles being shot by paparazzi

We’ve Danced to Joy Division, we Moved to New York, and we all became Techno Fans. Now we’re using bodies as weapons with Liverpool trio The Wombats, who today released the first bit of music from their upcoming third record.

“Your Body Is A Weapon” — and not a machine, as that was the Good Natured a few years ago — is an electronic attention-grabbing romper that retains the Wombats penchant for memorable hooks, with dashes of Arcade Fire and late-2000s Editors thrown in. It was produced by Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age) at Los Angeles’ Barefoot Studios, the site where the band will curate the new LP, the follow-up to 2011’s The Wombats present… This Modern Glitch, which spawned the mad-dash hits “Techno Fan” and “Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves).”

Frontman Matt Murphy told the NME the song is about paparazzi he witnessed trying to photograph One Direction’s Harry Styles.

“The song is loosely based on a ‘pap’ I witnessed outside a Brit awards after party, he was taking a picture of Conor Styles or whoever but looked thoroughly disinterested. It led me to feel slightly sorry for him…”

Word. The song is officially released October 2.
